Privacy at FishGrade
What we store when you have an account, what stays only on your device, and how to delete any of it.
Last updated: July 14, 2026
FishGrade helps you find good fishing lakes in Minnesota. Most of the site works without an account, and browsing those pages stores nothing about you. This page explains what we keep once you sign in, what stays only on your device, and how to remove any of it.
What we store when you have an account
An account lets you save lakes, spots, and catches so they follow you between devices. When you have one, we store this on our server:
- Your email address, used to sign you in and to reach you about your account.
- The lakes you favorite.
- Private spots you save: the name you give a spot and the coordinates you choose for it.
- Private catch logs: the species and date, plus anything else you add, such as a length, a weight, notes, and a location if you choose to place one.
Your favorites, spots, and catches are private to your account. We do not publish them, show them to other people, or build a public profile from them.
Your location
Seeing your location on the map and storing it with FishGrade are two different things.
When you tap “My location” on the map, your browser finds your position and centers the map on it. That reading stays on your device. We do not send it to our server, put it in the page address, or save it to your account.
FishGradestores a coordinate only when you ask it to: when you drop a catch pin, when you tap “Use current location” and confirm, or when you save a spot. Until one of those deliberate actions, nothing about your position is stored.
The map itself is drawn from tiles supplied by a map provider. To send the right tiles, that provider receives the area of the map you are looking at. Every web map works this way. What it receives is the map view, not your saved spots or catches.
Data saved in your browser
So a catch you log with a weak signal on the water is not lost, FishGrade keeps a small pending-catches outbox in your browser. It holds catches that have not synced yet and sends them once you are back online. Entries expire after 30 days.
This outbox lives on the device you used, not on our server. If you delete data from your account while a device is offline, we cannot reach that device to erase its copy. The next time you open FishGrade on that device, any outbox entry older than 30 days is purged. To remove that local data now, use the control below.
This clears FishGrade’s local data in this browser only. It does not touch your account or your other devices, and you do not need to be signed in to use it.
Analytics
We use page analytics to see which pages get visited. They receive the page route only, such as the fact that someone opened a lake page. They never receive your email address, coordinates, notes, spot names, or the location parts of a map address.
Deleting your data
You can remove anything you save, one item at a time. Removing a favorite removes that favorite. Deleting a spot deletes that spot. Deleting a catch deletes that catch, and nothing else.
To delete your whole account and everything stored with it, email us at support@fishgrade.com from the address on the account and ask us to delete it. We confirm the request comes from that address, then remove your account and all of the favorites, spots, and catches tied to it from our server. Local data on your own devices is separate, so use the control above to clear it on each device.
