Survival of brook trout stocked since 1989 has been very poor, almost certainly due to predation by northern pike. The 1986 reclamation either failed to acheive a compete kill, or the fish barrier constructed below Jake Lake failed to prevent the movement of northern pike (and other species) back into the system.Northern pike were relatively abundant, and had exhibited fast growth by area standards. Brook trout fingerlings were a seasonal source of high quality forage, but yellow perch were also present and contributed to the forage base when trout were not available.
